I like the fact that the Hawkesbury Independent is privately owned and not the product of a large publishing house that has their head office miles from its intended audience. Its locally owned and run and I love that.
The Independent Magazines are a small business publishing powerhouse that celebrates local stories, positive people and provides a fantastic platform for businesses to share their expertise and services. The Independent Magazines are a small business run by locals that employs locals.
It all started in 2010 when Julie Ryan, our Publisher had a dream to celebrate local community by bringing positive stories about local people and bringing the latest on what is happening in the local area in Sports, Council News, New Business, Health, Education, Politics and much more. The first Independent was launched in the Hawkesbury District in 2010 and then in 2015 the Hills Independent was born and then last but not least the Blacktown was launched in April 2021. The three magazines celebrate each community perfectly, and with a readership of over 120,000 people monthly we are growing everyday
We have a dedicated team of 12 staff working in production, editorial and sales. They work closely every month to provide magazines with topical and warm stories that celebrate community. We know local news because we are locals. “We are the Heart of your local news!!”
