Blacktown City is set to welcome an exciting international gymnastics tournament when the Marival Cup returns to Rooty Hill Leisure Centre this July, bringing together athletes from across Australia and overseas.
More than 120 gymnasts will compete in rhythmic and aesthetic group gymnastics competitions from 17 to 19 July at the Blacktown City Council venue, which has become a recognised hub for the sport in Western Sydney.
Joint organisers Australian Rhythmic Gymnastics and the Australian Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Federation selected Rooty Hill Leisure Centre for the event due to its high-quality facilities, including the specialised matufa gymnastics floor designed specifically for gymnastics competitions and training.
The tournament is expected to attract competitors and supporters from interstate, as well as countries throughout Asia and Europe, providing a boost for the local community and economy as visitors spend time in the area during the three-day event.
Brad Bunting said Council was proud to host an event of such significance.
“Our Council team takes great pride in providing quality venues for our community to keep active,” Mayor Bunting said.
“The fact that Rooty Hill Leisure Centre has been chosen to host an event of this magnitude shows the high standard our staff maintain.”
The Australian Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Federation has built a strong long-standing relationship with Blacktown City Council through its ongoing use of the venue. Rooty Hill Leisure Centre is also home to the Federation’s headquarters and training facility, making it a natural fit for the tournament.
The Marival Cup has previously been held at the venue and continues to grow in popularity each year, attracting increasing numbers of athletes and spectators.
Spectator tickets will be available for those wanting to experience the performances and athleticism up close, with more details available through the Australian Rhythmic Gymnastics website.
