Pacific celebration unites community

November 6, 2026

Flowery garlands and rhythmic hand drumming were among the sights and sounds as the first Pasifika Unity Festival delivered a slice of island life to Blacktown City.

Melanesian, Micronesian and Polynesian communities shared their traditions and cultural performances over the 31 October and 1 November weekend at Blacktown Football Park, Rooty Hill.

Blacktown City Mayor Brad Bunting said the celebration was befitting of the area’s significant Pasifika community.

“People from Pacific communities are a vital part of Blacktown City, and I am pleased we could honour and learn more about their culture with a range of performances and activities,” he said.

Many people enjoyed Rugby League World Cup action on the big screen, including the keenly anticipated clash between Samoa and Tonga.

Blacktown City Council and Multicultural NSW funded the event, while Council’s community partners were Elevated Culture and For The Area.
