Hawkesbury City Councillor Mary Lyons-Buckett was elected as the new Mayor of Hawkesbury City attonight’s Council meeting, Tuesday 8 September 2026. Councillor Nathan Zamprogno was elected Deputy Mayor.
Mayor Lyons-Buckett said it was an immense honour to be elected Mayor of Hawkesbury City.
“I wish to thank my fellow councillors for entrusting me to serve as Mayor for the next two years,” Mayor Lyons-Buckett said.
I also thank Councillor Les Sheather and Councillor Sarah McMahon for their service as Mayor and Deputy Mayor over the past two years.
“The next two years will be transformational for our community, with a bumper schedule of community facilities and road improvements already underway and in planning.
“I look forward to working together with my councillor colleagues in our mission of serving the community and building a Hawkesbury that is loved by its people.”
On his election, Deputy Mayor Zamprogno said: “It’s a significant responsibility I’ll do my best to discharge.”
Mayor Lyons-Buckett’s term as Mayor will run for two years until the next Local Government Elections in September 2028.
